Tattoo Aftercare 101: The Los Inks Guide To Healthy Healing

So, you've just inked up at Los Inks! That's awesome! Now, it's time to make sure your new piece heals like a champ. Here's a quick guide to help you keep your skin happy and your tattoo looking fresh.

The Aftercare Basics:

  • Leave the bandage on: Your artist will slap a bandage on your fresh ink. Leave it there for a few hours or as instructed.

  • Gentle wash: Once it's time to take the bandage off, give your tattoo a gentle wash with lukewarm water and mild soap. Think "soft as a baby's bottom."

  • Pat dry: Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean towel. No rubbing, please!

  • Moisturize: Apply a thin layer of the ointment your artist recommended. This could be something like A&D ointment or a fragrance-free lotion.

Daily Routine:

  • Wash and dry: Keep washing your tattoo twice a day with lukewarm water and mild soap. Pat dry, don't rub.

  • Reapply ointment: After washing, put on a thin layer of your chosen ointment.

  • Avoid irritants: Stay away from stuff that can irritate your skin, like chlorine, alcohol, and harsh soaps.

  • Protect from sun: Keep your new ink out of the sun for a few weeks.

Healing Process:

  • Scabbing: Your tattoo might scab over. Don't pick or peel at it. Let it do its thing.

  • Itching: It's normal to feel a little itchy. Resist the urge to scratch!

  • Fading: Your tattoo might look a little faded while it's healing. Don't worry, it'll come back to life.

Signs of Trouble:

Keep an eye out for these signs of infection:

  • Increased redness or swelling

  • Pain or tenderness

  • Pus or discharge

  • Fever

If you notice any of these, give your doctor a call.

Remember: Everyone's healing process is a little different. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to the crew at Los Inks. We're here to help you rock your new ink for years to come!
